The bright and cheerful design for the donkey was decided after consultation between the artist and the sponsor. The ‘Sooty’ and ‘smiley sun’ theme was established to ‘entertain the kids and amuse the adults’. ‘Cleopatra’ has a stylised star on her forehead and the ‘Pudsey’ eye bandage on one of the Sooty faces was added to remind people of what this event is all about.
John’s work is driven by his experiences and an appreciation of the imaginative and innovative modern artists who have inspired him over the years. His art takes many forms and he draws inspiration from nature, space, ancient history, myths, legends, fantasies and fairy tales. John established the Art House gallery in Orchard Street, Weston-super-Mare in 2001.
